As followers of Jesus Christ, we are given the mandate to share our faith with those around us; these were the last words of Jesus to his followers before he ascended into Heaven. However, many of us fail daily to share the hope that we have in Christ. For many Christians, the reluctance to share one’s faith is centered in a sense of fear – fear that the recipient of the message will refuse to listen or may even reject the gospel. While there are those who will refuse to listen and/or reject the message, that should not cause us to hesitate in our task. We have a saving hope in Jesus that needs to be shared. We have been redeemed from sin and death and should gladly and willingly be ready to give away that hope to everyone in our lives. Better yet, we should not be afraid of sharing because we have been affirmed by Scripture and told that even as people reject our message, God will not fail and there are people who will see the amazing sacrifice of Christ and the glory of God and will be ready to accept the gospel message.
Therefore, I offer two verses that have encouraged me as I share my faith:
Therefore let it be known to you that this salvation of God has been sent to the Gentiles; they will listen. (Acts 28:28 ESV, emphasis mine) – They will listen…such is encouraging news!
[Jesus said] I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. (Matthew 16:18 ESV) – Christ will succeed and the church will be built.
So, as you go today be encouraged to share of the hope that God has given you in Christ.
“But in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect.” (1 Peter 3:15 ESV)
